IK (Protection Level of Electrical Equipment Shell against External Mechanical Collision)


IK is applicable to the protection classification of external mechanical collision for the shell of electrical equipment whose rated voltage does not exceed 72.5 kV. IK is only applicable to the shell which has special requirements for the protection classification of external mechanical collision.

Range


This standard is applicable to the protection classification of external mechanical collision for the shell of electrical equipment whose rated voltage does not exceed 72.5 kV.This standard is only applicable to the shell which has special requirements for classification of external mechanical impact protection.


Definition


The following terms apply to this standard.

Degree of protection against mechanical impacts.The protection grade provided by the enclosure to the equipment which is not harmful to the equipment due to external mechanical collision is verified by standard test method.


IK codes indicate the level of protection against harmful mechanical collisions.The marking showing the protection level of the shell against external mechanical collision applies IK code to mark as follows.

IK08 definition

IK08 impact force grade means that object's function is not affected when it is subjected to mechanical impact force which is equivalent to a 2.5kg, diameter 25mm steel hammer.
